What's the best use for Fort Monmouth?

The Fort Monmouth re-use committees, the towns, legislators and the military are all mulling the best use of the fort site when it closes down. Should it be housing? Retail? A business park? Open space? Or a combination of those? We've heard from readers who'd like to see it become a new campus for one of the state universities, or a stem-cell research facility or other medical/scientific foundation. What do you think would be best for the fort, the local towns and the county?

With a causious eye I will watch the politicians feed their own pockets and their cronies pockets, for this is New Jersey where the poster boys for corruption run the state. I don't understand why it can't be sold to the highest bidder. It should be broken up into parcels and classified as to the future use of each. ie.(residential commercial etc.) Once sold and the revenue is collected, the local boards can make sure development of the land the fort is on, meets with their expectations.

Please be advised that the new Ft Monmouth Blog(Hillwallack?) stated that the 5000 jobs from Ft. Monmouth would be relocated to Aberdeen MD. This is not TRUE! My husband is a DOD contractor and he will be out of work. We live in a neighborhoring town to Ft. Monmouth and will more than likely not be able to afford to stay here.
